My DIY Summer Top

This summer I wanted to do something simple and casual and the first thought that came into my mind was a simple top. As a tailor daughter I’ve always been curious on changing my clothes or making new ones from scratch. My mum has a full time job as a professional tailor, but for me is just a pass-time.

Today’s challenge is making a brand new top from an old dress. I used a summer dress which was standing on my wardrobe for a long time now, so needed a little upgrade.

What I needed was only:

  • White lace
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Sewing machine

I started by taking measurements of myself and cut the top from the dress according to the dimensions. I have used the bottom part of the dress as a whole part for the top.

I was happy that it fitted quite right and started to work on the collar of the top. The idea of this top was to stand out with a simple accessory and I used a white lace as a collar giving the impression of a flower. It looked just lovely.

After sewing the collar I attached the short sleeves, which were taken from the remaining part of the dress.

Making the final sewing  and adjustments of the top, there it was my DIY summer top, done all by myself. I looked gorgeous with a casual outfit as my jeans and summer wedges matching with my bag.IMG_20130806_184947_20130806185751405
